Potter round our market for an eely good time

This Saturday Ely is going to be the place to be if you want to learn how to turn your hand to pottery or catch an eel. The craft market on the Market Square will this week have a pottery demonstration where anyone who fancies a go can throw a pot for a pound.

Fancy helping to design a city?

Next week, residents in East Cambridgeshire have the chance to look at some of the ideas for the future of Ely and tell the Council what they think. An exhibition at the Lamb Hotel on the 12, 14 and 15 March will offer the public the chance to see different options and concepts which could determine how Ely will look in 20 years time.

There’s a whole bunch of good video clips for us to watch this month. Matt Harvey on Transition Towns Poet, funny man and broadcaster Matt Harvey takes a look at the Transition Town movement. He talks to Transition people in Totnes, Stroud and Brixton. Interview with Dmitry Orlov Dimitry Orlov is the author of ‘ Reinventing Collapse ‘.  In his book, Orlov examines the  the demise of the Soviet Union, comparing it to today’s United States and offers insights into how we might prepare for coming events. His blog is well worth reading, this recent post in particular . Car park to close for tree pruning

St Mary’s Street car park is to temporarily close for a morning next week as a large tree at the entrance is pruned. The London Plane tree at the entrance to car park needs to have some of its branches removed for safety reasons.

Magistrates building gets stay of execution

East Cambridgeshire District Council has cautiously welcomed the news that Ely Magistrates has received a temporary reprieve. The news follows a high profile campaign by a number of organisations and individuals to save the building from being mothballed.

Residents in Soham can say how they want their town to look in the next twenty years simply by clicking online. As part of the Soham Masterplan Vision, a web survey has been set up to allow people to feed their thoughts and opinions on the place where they live, work and shop ahead of the public consultation event on 25 March.
