Community Groups Encouraged to Bid for Funding

Charities and voluntary groups in East Cambridgeshire are being encouraged to apply for grants of up to 1,500 to help the young, old, disabled or rural communities.

The money is coming from the East Cambridgeshire Community Fund, which has a total pot of 15,000 to help causes from across the district.

The money is available for non-profit groups or organisations to fund up to 70 per cent of a scheme or projects cost for the benefit of local people.

The Hub, the brainchild of East Cambridgeshire District Council, 'serial entrepreneur' Peter Dawe and Simon Crosland from Business Link East, has helped people from all over the District develop their business ideas.

Review of Ely Markets sets out new options

The first stage of the Ely Markets consultation has suggested a number of options to 'develop and maintain viable markets in Ely'.

After receiving questionnaires from traders, productive meetings with representatives from across all of Ely's three markets and analysis of written responses, the cross party Review Team is set to make a number of recommendations for further consultation to the Internal Overview and Scrutiny Committee later this month.

Ely Folk Festival Band Competition 2010 Winner is…

Gavin Adam Wood, a singer-songwriter based in Cambridge. Gavin sings his own compositions as well as covering others with his soulful and distinctive voice. Gavin is no stranger to winning competitions as he was voted best act in last year’s Cambridge Buskers and Street Performer Festival.

Graffiti, abandoned vehicles and fly tipping can seriously blight an area which is why East Cambridgeshire District Council is looking at powers to stop small problems ruining a community.

The new Environmental Enforcement Strategy approved by Councillors last week looks at how best to tackle littering through education, encouragement and enforcement.

Homes in Soham no longer need to be empty

Owners of empty homes in Soham can now take advantage of a project that has brought life back into empty homes in Littleport.

Launched last year, the Empty Homes Project has assisted with the renovation of five empty homes in the Littleport area and is committed to bringing a further four homes back into use over the next 12 months. This has been achieved with grants and interest free loans worth over 160,000.
