The business temperature in Ely has just gone up a notch with the news of a new firm moving on to Cambridgeshire Business Park.

PhoenixTM Limited, who specialise in making and selling Temperature Profiling equipment to industries across the world has leased a building owned by East Cambridgeshire District Council.

East Cambridgeshire has been identified in a national survey as well placed to weather the looming public sector cuts but also has a real sense of community.

The Experian research, commissioned by the BBC, has looked at how England's regions may cope with further public sector cuts.

East Cambridgeshire was rated as fourth in the Eastern Region and 45th of the most resilient areas in the country to the cuts based on four key areas of business, community, people and place.

Fifty lucky people have the chance to see the learn more about the historic sights of Ely this weekend as part of Heritage Open Days – England's annual celebration of local history, architecture and culture.

On Sunday 12 September at 11am, there will be two free guided walks through Ely, explaining the history and heritage of this small but magnificent city.

New plastic bottle recycling bank for busy site

A new plastic bottle recycling bank is being installed at Downham Road in Ely to meet the demand from local residents for extra capacity at the site.

The recycling site has been experiencing problems with often unrelated materials being dumped by the banks on Downham Road and the Council is urging residents to dispose of waste responsibly to avoid the risk of prosecution for fly tipping.

On Monday 30 August, starting at 9am and finishing at 3.30pm, Ely Markets brings the best mix of traders from the Farmers' Market with stalls from the General and Craft & Collectables Markets and a few extra new stalls to add to the variety of goods on offer.

Residents in East Cambridgeshire are being warned to put the phone down on bogus callers offering Council Tax rebates.

The warning comes after a resident reported being offered a 900 Council Tax rebate if they sent the caller 90 in advance. A second caller pretended to be from a company called MSH and again offered a refund for an upfront payment.

Schools and the Olympics – must be the Neighbourhood Panel time

East Cambridgeshire's Olympic plan and a presentation on the allocation of school places are just two of the topics to be discussed at the month's Neighbourhood Panels.

The Soham and East Panel will be considering the Olympics, while the South Panel will focus on school admission procedures. Both Panels will also receive their regular update on actions that have taken place since the October meetings.

To celebrate International Day of Older People, the Mature & Active programme and Cambridgeshire Celebrates Age will be launching the Mature & Active Guide 2010 – Autumn edition.

Council and Police working together to deliver CCTV

East Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridgeshire Constabulary have been in discussions to jointly provide the CCTV service for Soham and Ely.

The two organisations in partnership with the City of Ely Council and Soham Town Council are working to base the system in Ely police station where a timetable will be established, whereby it is monitored by officers and fully trained volunteers.
