Asbestos compliance to be tackled

Inspections of local businesses in East Cambridgeshire has found only 30 per cent of firms are complying with asbestos regulations.

Officers from the Commercial Team in Environmental Services at East Cambridgeshire District Council and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) carried out targeted inspections of businesses within the District over the last few weeks.

After a targeted information drop to companies in Soham and Burwell, officers visited 26 premises – where only eight businesses were complying with the regulation

Residents create their own woodland

Over 100 people came down to the Country Park in Ely at the weekend to dig, plant and stamp their own little trees and create a new wood in the district.

On Saturday 30 October, 500 native and fruit trees were planted as residents came along with the spades, wellies and picnics to help.

Local Enterprise Partnership bid gets the green light

The Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership (GC GP LEP) bid has today (Thursday 28th October 2010) been given the green light to proceed by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).

Local Enterprise Partnerships have been created by BIS and the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) to bring businesses and the public sector together to help tackle issues such as local transport and infrastructure, economic development, employment, planning and housing, enterprise and supporting business start-ups.

Planning for future parking in East Cambs

The issue of parking in East Cambridgeshire is to be progressed next week as Councillors look at how to deliver an effective on and off street parking scheme and save money.

The Car Park Working Party at East Cambridgeshire District Council meets on Wednesday 10 November to discuss the work which has taken place so far on Civil Parking Enforcement (CPE) and off-street parking.

Public toilets closed after burst mains

Five public toilets have been closed in Ely following a burst water pipe in the city.

Anglian Water are currently working to repair the leak but it is estimated the facilities will be closed for at least six hours until the repairs have been completed as the systems refill.

The toilets affected are: Barton Road car park, Newnham Street, Cloisters, Sacrist Gate and Palace Green. The Ship Lane toilets remain open at this time.

Council offices close after burst mains

The office of East Cambridgeshire District Council has closed this afternoon following a burst water pipe in the city.

Anglian Water are working to repair the leak however the Council's office on Nutholt Lane no longer has running water so a decision has been made to close the building.

A meeting of the Car Park Working Party due to take place at the Grange has been moved to The Barn in Littleport to start at the later time of 2.30pm.

Council offices reopen after burst mains

Following the successful repairs to the burst water main in Ely by Anglian Water overnight, the offices of East Cambridgeshire District Council reopened as usual this morning.

All public toilets in Ely are currently being cleaned but are open.
