Residents are set to have their say on what they think of future development of the Eastern Gateway area of Soham.

At an exhibition between 2pm and 8pm on Monday 6 December at the Walter Gidney Pavilion in Soham, local people can come along and see different options for the Gateway area and make comments.

The site, identified in the Soham Masterplan Vision and Core Strategy for future development, is currently 30 hectares of mainly farmland.

Council wins extra £29,000 to tackle flooding

Surface water flooding in Littleport has been given the final go-ahead thanks to an additional bid by East Cambridgeshire District Council for extra funds.

Last March, the Council was one of 49 local authorities to be awarded funding by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) to tackle flooding caused when the ground, rivers and drains cannot absorb heavy rain.

Ely Farmers’ Market award winning again

Ely Farmers’ market has again been named as the regional winner for the East of England at the National Farmers’ Retail & Markets Association (FARMA) Annual awards.

It is now one of seven certified farmers’ markets in England and Wales going through to the national finals to find the best of its type in the country.

Tackling the dangers of carbon monoxide

Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odourless, colourless gas, which can cause death. This December, Environmental Health Officers are trying to highlight the dangers of carbon monoxide, which is known as ‘the silent killer’.

The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and the Health Protection Agency (HPA), have provided new guidance to Environmental Health Officers at East Cambridgeshire District Council, to help reduce the chances of carbon monoxide poisoning when they carry out housing inspections.

God rest you merry Mature & Active programme

With the Christmas season now in full swing, the Mature & Active programme has lined up some special festive treats.

On Monday 13 December, there is set to be a Mature & Active Tea Dance at the Maltings in Ely from 2pm until 4pm. It costs only 5 and there will be homemade cake as well as tea and coffee served to everyone who attends. This event is in association with LIVING SPORT’s Dancing for Fun and Better Health.
