This Bank Holiday Monday, visitors to Ely’s Market Place are sure to be in for a frosted treat.

At the Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday market, ‘The Gingerbread Lady’ will be demonstrating the art of cupcake icing and decoration as well as selling her delicious individual cupcakes, brownies and sweet treats.

The market will have a number of traders selling a vast range of quality goods from sausages for BBQs to great artisan breads and delicious Hungarian chimney cakes.

Working together to grow our economy

With East Cambridgeshire being identified as a great place to live and work, business leaders, local councillors and organisations have got together to talk about how to develop the district as a business location.

Over 20 local businesses from manufacturers to high tech firms to agriculture as well as local authorities gathered at the event hosted by Quotient Bioresearch in Fordham, winner of a number of business awards locally including Employer of the Year and Business of the Year.

Keep an eye out for your right to vote

Residents in East Cambridgeshire are being asked to look out for important forms arriving on their doormat this June and July giving them the chance to register their right to vote.

Normally registration forms are issued in the August and September each year, but this year canvassers will be out delivering the forms early to enable people to register in time to vote in the new Police and Crime Commissioner Elections taking place on Thursday 15 November.

Officers working for East Cambridgeshire District Council have notched up another victory over a benefit cheat in the courts.

Mario Oliveira, 39, from Soham pleaded guilty to charges brought by Anglia Revenues Partnership on behalf of the Council.

Where should a cinema go?

With the private sector wanting to develop a permanent cinema in Ely and with positive support from the public for the idea, the District Council is asking local residents for their opinions on where development should go.

Helping our town centres to excel

An initiative to help town centres throughout East Cambridgeshire to grow and prosper has been approved by District Councillors today (Tuesday 12 June).

The new Town Centres Working Party will be the place to discuss and put forward ideas from best practise in town centre management, specific town centre proposals relating to proposals such as traffic management and retail developments, as well as opportunities to co-ordinate plans to help the district to flourish.

How to improve the homes of the elderly in the future

To ensure the elderly and people with disabilities have access to home improvement services in East Cambridgeshire, a review is being set up to safe guard the service for the future.

Currently, Care & Repair East Cambridgeshire provides assistance to the elderly and disabled families to help them access funding to help them continue to live in their own homes and as independently as possible.
