How to complete your ballot in Police and Crime Commissioner elections

Date:
Wed, 11/14/2012

People going to the polls this week in the Police and Crime Commissioner elections will be casting their vote by a different system than they may be used to.

For this election, people can vote for a first and second choice of who they want to win via the Supplementary Vote system.

As people receive their ballot paper from a polling clerk, they will see it lists all the candidates standing in Cambridgeshire – next to this list will be two columns for people to put their vote in.

A joint initiative between two Councils in East Cambridgeshire aims to resolve the issue of car parking in Ely which was put on hold earlier this year.

Discussions between the City of Ely Council and East Cambridgeshire District Council have produced new proposals on car parking charges which include a free first hour of parking as well as a guarantee to invest excess income to benefit the city centre.

How much should Councillors be paid?

Wed, 11/21/2012

Residents in East Cambridgeshire are being asked to give their views on District Councillors’ remuneration this month.

An Independent Remuneration Panel is currently investigating whether councillors at the District Council are fairly paid for their time whilst taking into account the voluntary nature of the job.

With the basic allowance currently at just over £4,000 and with some Councillors receiving additional allowances as Chairman of Committee, the Panel are looking to understand whether or not this acts as a barrier to people standing for election.
