East Cambridgeshire District Council is being forced to carry out major work on a significant tree on Palace Green in Ely.

Over the last few years, the District Council has been monitoring the upper canopy of the mature Sycamore tree beside the boundary wall of The Old Palace in Ely.

During a recent inspection, officers found an area of dead bark and exposed dead sapwood near the main structural branch towards the centre of the tree canopy.

Figures just released by Sport England show 31.3 per cent of people in the district are getting involved with sport at least once a week for 30 minutes – this is 2.2 per cent more than last year. The increase also marks the end of a four year decline in participation in the district.
