Children, walkers and visitors to Ely are going to get to have their say on new play equipment to be installed in the city’s County Park.

At Community and Environment Committee, Councillors agreed to invest £150,000 of developers funding to improve facilities, signage and access to the area.

Following the meeting of the Planning Committee at East Cambridgeshire District Council, the following decisions were made:

1. Construction of six affordable houses (2 x three bed houses and 4 x two bed houses) at land to Southwest Sheriffs Court, Burrough Green. The applicant is The Sanctuary Group

Decision: Approved subject to conditions and a section 106 agreement

Fall in love at Oliver Cromwell House this half term

Love and romance will be celebrated at Oliver Cromwell House in Ely next week as people prepare for Valentine’s Day.

Visitors to the House will be able to ‘Meet the Cromwell’s’ between 11am to 1pm on Tuesday 12 February to hear about romance through the ages through costumed characters explaining about courtship customs and tokens of love during the 17th century.

Grants approved to set the time for a swim

Community Infrastructure Levy is now live

The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is now the main way of securing developer contributions towards the delivery of infrastructure and services to support growth in the District.

There are a number of benefits of CIL as it provides:

New walks will put a spring in your step

With romance in the air, visitors to East Cambridgeshire can set off for adventures and explore the beauty of the Fens with a series of walks now available at the Tourist Information Centre in Ely.

These new leaflets are the culmination of a three year European funded project to improve local walks and rides both for local people and visitors.

Setting the future for growth in East Cambridgeshire

A blueprint for the future growth of East Cambridgeshire up to 2031 is set to go out to consultation next week for residents, businesses and others to have their say.

The Local Plan looks at how much, where and when development should take place. It seeks to ensure development in the district is ‘sustainable’ by meeting the needs of the area.

Boat owner finds himself in deep water

East Cambridgeshire District Council has made a successful prosecution regarding illegal mooring on Ely’s Riverside this week.

Magistrates fined Mr Alan Rayner for illegally mooring his boat ‘Irene’ on the River Great Ouse in Ely without permission for four months. The Byelaws allow mooring for a period of 48 hours only, with no return for 48 hours.
