Celebrity Chef line up for Food and Drink Festival

The line up of celebrity and local chefs for this year’s Ely’s Food and Drink Festival as part of the Eel Festival is now complete.

Joining Valentine Warner – the renowned food writer and cook – who is opening the event on Sunday 3 May, will be Jean-Christophe Novelli the 5 out of 5 AA Rosette and Michelin award winning chef and Alex Rushmer the Mas

Not long left to register to vote

Residents in East Cambridgeshire are being reminded they have only days left to register to vote in this year’s General and local elections.

In order to vote in the elections on Thursday 7 May, people need to have registered to vote by the deadline on Monday 20 April.

The process is simple and can take as little as three minutes online via www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Festival set to r’eel them in

Ely is the place to be this May to celebrate the life and times of the humble little eel.
 
The Eel Festival is back from Friday 1 May until Monday 4 May with all the usual fun activities taking place.  
 
It all begins with City Centre Business Eel Throwing Competition on the Market Place on Friday 1 May. City Centre retailers and businesses will battle it out to be crowned ‘City Centre Eel Throwing Business of the Year’ sponsored by the Ely News. The stuff socked eel title is currently held by Whizzle.

Full Council ratifies East Cambridgeshire Local Plan

The Local Plan for East Cambridgeshire, which manages growth and development in the district for the next 15 years and beyond, has been adopted by Full Council.

The Local Plan seeks to ensure development in the district is ‘sustainable’ by looking at how much, where and when development should take place.
