East Cambridgeshire Leisure Centre boosted by £1.5M Sport England grant

Sport England’s Project Committee has approved a conditional lottery award of £1.5M towards the development of the East Cambridgeshire District Leisure Centre.

At its full council meeting in June, East Cambridgeshire District Council agreed to proceed with the new District Leisure Centre project, subject to receiving £1.5M funding from Sport England. Confirmation of lottery award means the project is now fully funded and can go ahead.

Game On: Escape Rooms Craze set to storm Ely

A fast-growing craze that sees members of the public locked in a room and asked to solve puzzles to escape is set to storm Ely.

A pop up Escape Room, which is an immersive interactive experience, and which has been referred to as a real-life Crystal Maze, is being launched in Oliver Cromwell’s House.

Groups of between four to eight people will be arrested and imprisoned by Cromwell’s men and given an hour to find the clues, solve the riddles and crack the code to locate a golden key.

Ely Markets Goes Continental This Bank Holiday Weekend

Ely Markets will play host to a range of continental delicacies and delights over the long bank holiday weekend.

From Saturday 27th August until Monday 29th August, visitors to Ely Market can indulge in what the visiting continental market has to offer. An array of food stalls will hold everything from freshly made paella, crepes and tartiflette to artisanal cheese, breads, olive oils and preserves. There will also be a variety of continental crafts available, including handmade Provençal soaps, amber jewellery, woodcarvings, objets d’art and fashion accessories.

No barrier to building for people who stick to the rules, says Council

A local authority planning department that approves 94% of applications has said that there is no barrier to building for people who follow the rules. Officers for East Cambridgeshire District Council have worked hard to challenge the reputation the sector has for hindering rather than helping people with applications for development. But while the majority of cases get the thumbs up, their firm but fair policy means they take a hard line with people who do not follow due process.

Countdown begins for Health and Happiness Day

The countdown has begun for East Cambridgeshire Health and Wellbeing Partnership’s flagship Health and Happiness Day, which will be taking place at Ely Country Park this September.
 
The day, which will provide guidance and taster sessions, showing how residents can live healthier and make positive impacts on their health, is on Sunday 25th September from 11am until 3pm.
