Free tours of Ely’s Landmarks to celebrate its history and heritage

A host of Ely’s historic landmarks will open their doors to the public free of charge as part of the National Heritage Weekend (9-11 September).

Ten venues in the city are involved in the programme and some guided walking tours have also been arranged to take in period buildings and significant architecture.

Among highlights are a visit to The Stained Glass Museum to see windows dating back to 1200 and the fossil and Roman remains exhibitions at Ely Museum.

Consultation Shows Support for Devolution

Councillors have welcomed the outcome of a public consultation on proposals to devolve power and hundreds of millions of pounds of funding from Westminster to Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

The consultation was launched in July and finished in August. It included a proportionally representative Ipsos MORI phone poll of 2,280 residents as well as an online survey which 1,500 people completed, plus comments from business, community groups, parish councils and other organisations.

The scale of the response has surpassed similar consultations in other devolution areas.

New Website set to Boost Tourism to Ely

A new website designed to showcase the gems of Ely has been launched by the town’s tourism ambassadors.

Visit Ely has refreshed the design and feel of www.visitely.org.uk making it easier to navigate and more visually appealing.

It has also been made mobile responsive and has links with social media networks which should increase its reach by 80,000 users in the next year.

Fun to be had at first Health & Happiness Day

Dance classes, korfball and a climbing wall are just some of the activities planned for the East Cambridgeshire Health and Wellbeing Partnership’s flagship Health and Happiness Day.

The event which will be held at Ely County Park on Sunday 25th September, will provide guidance and activities for residents to show how they can make positive impacts on their health.

Details of Parish of Ely – North Ward By-Election Announced

Information regarding the election of a parish councillor for the Ely North Ward has been released today.
Polling stations for eligible voters will be open from 7.00am until 10pm to vote for a new parish councillor on the 6th October 2016.
Persons nominated for the role are Edward Bengt Carlsson Browne (Labour Party), Mark Cooney (Spotted in Ely), Richard Gareth Llewelyn Morgan (no description) and John Yates (Independent).
Postal votes for the election will be sent out on Thursday 22nd September to those who have registered.

Inaugural Health & Happiness Day Hailed a Hit

Yesterday Ely Country Park was filled with visitors interested in what the area’s health and wellbeing organisations had to offer.
The inaugural Health and Happiness Day hosted by the East Cambridgeshire Health and Wellbeing Partnership, featured demonstrations and guidance from a spectrum of local businesses and organisations to encourage local to make positive impacts on their health.
