Register of Elector forms have been delivered to over 37,000 households during the last few weeks and give details of the eligible electors in the district.  These are a combination of Household Enquiry Forms (HEFs) and Individual Registration Forms (ITRs) which need to be returned.

Result for the Parish of Ely – North Ward by-election

On Thursday 06 October 2016, voters in took to the polls to vote in the Parish of Ely – North Ward By-Election.

 

Polling stations nationwide opened at 7am and closed at 10pm.

The count venue was the Council Chamber, East Cambridgeshire District Council.

The turnout was announced as 16.17%. 

At 23.03pm, the Returning Officer, John Hill, declared the count totals, which are as follows: 

 

The total number of ballot paper counted was 855

The number of votes cast in favour of Edward Bengt Carlsson Browne (Labour Party) – 179

An apple a day … or the day of the apple

The classic English apple is set to be celebrated once again at the annual Apple Festival in Ely.
 
From humble beginnings over 15 years ago, the event has now grown into one of best apple celebrations in the area.  What’s more Watergull Orchards, one of Cambridgeshire’s apple and juice producers and supporters of this event, will once again be in attendance with their impressive display of apples.

Skills on Show at Ely Cathedral!

Wednesday will see a variety of pupils from local schools and colleges come together to explore the employment opportunities in the area.

Held at Ely Cathedral, the East Cambridgeshire Career & Skills Show allows businesses to interact with and inspire pupils, as well as informing them of the skills required for their chosen career. The event is organised by a partnership including Ely College, East Cambridgeshire District Council and Form the Future.

Skills show helps bridge the gap between education and employment

A local skills show has brought together young people and local employers to talk about career opportunities in the district.
 
The East Cambridgeshire Career & Skills Show, organised by a partnership including Ely College, East Cambridgeshire District Council and Form the Future, is now in its third year and has continued to grow and attract attention from the schools, colleges and business alike.

UK’s First Sake Brewery Appoints Local Contractor

The team behind the UK’s first Sake brewery have appointed a local contractor to undertake the building work which is now underway.
Patrick Doyle Contractors have been awarded the contract for the build, which will be based at Fordham Abbey Estate, East Cambridgeshire and will see £9m invested over a period of five years.

Next steps in place for Barton Road development

Following the approval for planning permission in August of this year, initial steps to progress the development of 11 homes on Barton Road, Ely are set to commence on the 7th November.

 

The next stage of the development will be an archaeological survey, which will identify whether there is anything of historical interest on the site.
