New Leader sees Localism as his priority

Strong communities and managed growth will be the key focus of the Leader Elect of East Cambridgeshire District Council.

Following the election of a new District Council last week, the Conservative Party maintained control of the District with a majority of eleven, after 25 Conservative, 10 Liberal Democrat and four Independent Councillors were elected.

Championing wardens protecting our trees

Tree champions from across the country headed to the House of Lords last week to mark 20 years of The Tree Council’s Tree Warden Scheme and East Cambridgeshire was well represented.

Volunteer Tree Wardens were feted by politicians and senior local council officials for all the hard work they do to protect trees in their local parishes.

Council warns of even tougher times ahead

With the Government preparing its emergency budget to tackle the nation’s budget deficit, local authorities are yet again bracing themselves for difficult decisions.

In East Cambridgeshire, the District Council heard last week its revenue grant would remain at just over 6million but with over 1.6 billion taken out of local government this year, the authority is mindful that tough choices may lie ahead.
