UK’s first sake brewery blessed in traditional Jichinsai ceremony

A ground breaking ceremony like no other has been held at the construction site of the UK’s first sake brewery in East Cambridgeshire. 

The event which is known as a “Jichinsai” is a traditional Shinto ceremony undertaken to purify the building site prior to laying the foundations and to pray for the safety of the people involved in the construction.

Project to provide young people in need with daily essentials

A project to help provide essential items for children and young people who may not have access to basics, such as toothpaste and soap, has been set up in partnership with the Police and East Cambridgeshire District Council.

The packs of basic toiletries, underwear and other essential care items will be made available through schools, GP services, food banks and other community-based organisations with the help of East Cambridgeshire Community Safety Partnership.

Giving Ely a spring clean

On Sunday 29 March, residents in Ely can come and join a host of organisations as they work to give the city a spring clean.

As part of a week of action in Ely to tackle speeding, parking and anti-social behaviour, the East Cambridgeshire Community Safety Partnership, City of Ely Council, East Cambridgeshire District Council, Cambridgeshire Constabulary and others are encouraging people to come forward and help tidy Ely.
