To cope with the predicted growth in the district in the next twenty years, plans are being made to lay the foundation for future jobs in East Cambridgeshire.
The economy in the district is mainly based around agriculture, manufacturing, education, retail and distribution and also has five per cent of employment in high tech industries.

Ely become the centre of attention last month as part of an ‘Environment Action Day’.
The day began with a tour of the city by members of the Community Safety Partnership, including Cambridgeshire Constabulary, East Cambridgeshire District Council, City of Ely Council and Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service.
They walked through the city checking for anti social behaviour, graffiti, dog fouling, littering, fly tipping as well as looking at its general appearance.

Talk: Keep Ely moving by Philip Eden – 9th May 2012
Residents in East Cambridgeshire are being given the chance to pick up some free soil improver as part of Compost Awareness Week next week.
The opportunity has been organised by East Cambridgeshire District Council and EARTH with the giveaway taking place at Larkfields Resource Centre, High Barns, Ely on Thursday 10th May from 10am to 3pm.

Work to create a one stop shop to deal with residents’ council and housing needs in East Cambridgeshire is on target to be completed this month.
Development of a new reception area at East Cambridgeshire District Council began in April with the aim of providing residents and customers with better facilities – such as new interview rooms, self service computer terminals and a single point of contact for the District Council and Sanctuary Housing.
