Local Business fined for carrying out illegal slaughter

A business in Mepal convicted of carrying out the illegal slaughter of animals and breaching food hygiene regulations has been ordered to pay fines totaling £1,025 and costs of £1303.

Mr Lee Smith of Jasmine Farm, Chatteris Road, Mepal admitted three breaches of The Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006 and one breach of the General Food Regulations 2004 at a hearing in Cambridge Magistrates’ Court.

The case began with an anonymous telephone call alleging meat was being made available locally without going through a slaughterhouse.
