Cider along to this year’s Apple Festival

It’s that corking time of year again when people head to Ely with unidentified apples from their gardens and put into practise months of training to peel an apple to enter the record books.

Next Saturday (17 October) it is the city’s fifteenth Apple Festival organised and ran by East Cambridgeshire District Council and Watergull Orchards.

Visitors to Palace Green between 10am – 4pm will be able to take part in a whole host of events such as:

East Cambridgeshire aiming for Gold Standard

With East Cambridgeshire setting a high standard in tackling homelessness, the District Council has been asked to host the National Practitioner for Department of Communities and Local Government’s (DCLG) Housing Gold Standard.

Steve Tong, the Practitioner for the East of England and Kent, will be based in the Housing Options team for three days a week where he will help authorities work towards the Gold Standard.

Need to know what variety of apple grows in your garden? Want to enter the record books for the longest apple peel or even take part in an apple and spoon race?

Well anyone can in Ely this Saturday (18 October) in the city’s fourteenth Apple Festival organised and ran by East Cambridgeshire District Council and Watergull Orchards.
