Community spirit high as Queen’s Beacon burns brightly in Burwell

As many as 150 people turned out to see the lighting of the Queen’s Birthday Beacon in Burwell last Thursday (21 April).

The celebrations, organised by East Cambridgeshire District Council in conjunction with Burwell Parish Council, began with the ringing of St Mary’s church bells.

This was followed by a superb performance from the Burwell Community Choir, who sung beautifully by The Guildhall in their black outfits and blue scarves, covering a range of songs from Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) by Shakira to Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel.

Hark! When are the waste and recycling collections this Christmas?

Over the Christmas and New Year period, the waste and recycling collection days in East Cambridgeshire will be subject to minor changes.

In order to allow for bank holidays, residents should put out their black bags, brown bags and black box recycling out at the following dates:

Normal Collection Day         Revised Collection
Monday 24 December          Monday 24 December (no change)
Tuesday 25 December        Thursday 27 December
Wednesday 26 December  Friday 28 December
Thursday 27 December       Saturday 29 December
