East Cambridgeshire District Council has purchased land close to Ely railway station with the aim of providing additional car parking spaces for commuters.

The land is close to the Tesco ‘Click and Collect’ depot at The Dock. Subject to obtaining planning approval, the Council is aiming to provide at least 100 new car parking spaces and a lit walkway linking the new carpark to the existing car parking facility at Angel Drove.

It is expected that the cost of parking at the new site will be the same as the prices at the Angel Drove car park.

East Cambridgeshire District Council has submitted a planning application to build a terrace of six new high quality town houses and five apartments on the edge of the car park in Barton Road Ely.

The design of the new homes, which will be in the Ely Conservation Area, has been inspired by Waddington Terrace on St Mary’s Street Ely and with clever reorganisation there will be no loss of car parking spaces when the scheme is complete.
