Central Government makes East Cambs District Council new host of national housing programme

The incredible turnaround of East Cambridgeshire’s Housing Options team has led to them being named the new host of a national housing programme.

The National Practitioner Support Service (NPSS) programme is funded by Central Government via the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG), and was previously hosted by Winchester City Council.

More money to support recycling in East Cambs

With recycling rates in East Cambridgeshire projected to go over 54 per cent this year, the District Council has won more money from Government to help promote recycling further.

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) announced East Cambridgeshire District Council was one of 46 successful bids to receive funding through its Recycling Reward Scheme.

East Cambs’ recycling success continues to get noticed

The introduction of the wheeled bin recycling service in East Cambridgeshire has seen the area record the third highest increase in recycling performance of English Councils in the last year.

The statistics from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs show in 2012/13 East Cambridgeshire was ranked 257th out of 320 councils responsible for waste collections with recycling levels of 33.37%.

During 2013/14, when the new service was introduced halfway through the year, East Cambridgeshire shot up to 116th with a recycling rate of 45.48%.
