An apprenticeship grant scheme made available by East Cambridgeshire District Council (ECDC) is paving the way for more young people to access new careers, and is offering local businesses a much needed helping hand, enabling them to grow.

Last year’s grant – a total of £16,000 provided by the District Council’s Economic Development Team – was given as either a stand-alone amount, or as a top-up to the National Apprenticeship AGE Grant worth £1500 per company, which the Council also encourages businesses to apply for.

Tourism delivering economic benefits in East Cambs

Tourism is having a huge impact on the economic fortunes of East Cambridgeshire as millions of visitors and pounds pour into the area.

New research shows in 2013, there were 3.4 million trips to the district worth £182 million to the local economy, with the tourism industry directly employing 3,335 people.

The ‘Economic Impact of Tourism’ report from TSE Research, highlights how the total number of trips, day visitors, day visitor spend and total tourism monetary value has increased dramatically since the last report in 2010.

Priorities set to define East Cambridgeshire’s future

As East Cambridgeshire looks to grow and develop in the future, a new set of Corporate Priorities have been agreed by the District Council.

These measures will be act as a blueprint for the authority to deliver projects over the next two years to unite plans to improve the economic, social and leisure activities throughout the district.
