Working together to grow our economy

With East Cambridgeshire being identified as a great place to live and work, business leaders, local councillors and organisations have got together to talk about how to develop the district as a business location.

Over 20 local businesses from manufacturers to high tech firms to agriculture as well as local authorities gathered at the event hosted by Quotient Bioresearch in Fordham, winner of a number of business awards locally including Employer of the Year and Business of the Year.

Taking a tour of action in Ely

Ely become the centre of attention last month as part of an ‘Environment Action Day’.

The day began with a tour of the city by members of the Community Safety Partnership, including Cambridgeshire Constabulary, East Cambridgeshire District Council, City of Ely Council and Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service.

They walked through the city checking for anti social behaviour, graffiti, dog fouling, littering, fly tipping as well as looking at its general appearance.

Leading the way to create new jobs

To cope with the predicted growth in the district in the next twenty years, plans are being made to lay the foundation for future jobs in East Cambridgeshire.

The economy in the district is mainly based around agriculture, manufacturing, education, retail and distribution and also has five per cent of employment in high tech industries.
