Members at East Cambridgeshire District Council have voted for a Council Tax freeze as part of the balanced budget for 2015/16.

Councillors at Full Council heard how the ongoing success of the District Council’s medium term financial strategy and the restructure of the authority last year had helped to strengthen the organisation’s budget.

As part of the budget, the Council is freezing its proportion of the council tax for the second year in a row in order to qualify for the Government’s Council Tax Freeze Grant.

The future of Ely Soham Dial-a-Ride this year looks more secure thanks to a grant of £15,000 from East Cambridgeshire District Council.

At a Full Council meeting this evening (Thursday 8 January), Cllr James Palmer, Leader of the authority, put forward a proposal to approve the funding following his meeting with the organisation.

The £15,000 will allow Ely Soham Dial-a-Ride to suspend its threatened closure and help those in charge to investigate options to enable the organisation to become more sustainable in the future.
