Want help cleaning up your neighbourhood

Communities looking to clean up their local area in East Cambridgeshire can call on the District Council for all the equipment they need to do the work.

The Waste and Recycling team have kits of rubbish bags, gloves, litter pickers and high visibility jackets available for Parish Councils, voluntary organisations and community groups to use.

In recent months areas of Soham, Wicken and Fordham have all benefitted from local people coming together to tidy up commons, cemeteries and play areas.

Soham’s young and old help with cemetery clean up

Last weekend, over 40 volunteers of all ages helped to clean up the cemetery in Soham – the home to the graves for hundreds of local residents.

The work had been coordinated by Councillor Julie Webb Vice Chair Soham Town Council and her husband Tim Webb and supported by organisations including the Viva Youth Group and East Cambridgeshire District Council who supplied rubbish bags, gloves and high visibility jackets.

The volunteers tidied graves, removing climbing ivy from gravestones as well as cleaning and de-webbing the public toilet.
