Emergency tree felling work taking place in Ely next week

Removal of a mature willow tree in Ely will take place next week, on Wednesday 22nd June, to ensure the area remains safe to the public.  

The Willow tree (tree number 2183, highlighted on the site plan) is situated near the corner of Lavenders Land, on the edge of the Riverside footpath, off Willow Walk.

After recent inspections, it has been found that the main stem of the tree is badly decayed, rotten and deteriorating rapidly, and in the interests of public safety, must be felled.

Iconic tree set to be felled on Palace Green

East Cambridgeshire District Council is being forced to remove on a significant tree on Palace Green in Ely.

Over the last few years, the District Council has been monitoring the mature Sycamore tree beside the boundary wall of The Old Palace in Ely. In 2012, the tree was reduced in an attempt to retain it in a safe condition and see if the tree had the vigour to respond.
