How much should Councillors be paid?

Wed, 11/21/2012

Residents in East Cambridgeshire are being asked to give their views on District Councillors’ remuneration this month.

An Independent Remuneration Panel is currently investigating whether councillors at the District Council are fairly paid for their time whilst taking into account the voluntary nature of the job.

With the basic allowance currently at just over £4,000 and with some Councillors receiving additional allowances as Chairman of Committee, the Panel are looking to understand whether or not this acts as a barrier to people standing for election.
